There are various models for focusing on how to become an expert.

One of the best known was outlined by two brothers, Hubert and Stuart Dreyfus in the 1980s. In the video above they begin introducing their model.

They describe five stages that people go through to progress from being novices to experts. These stages are:

The Dreyfus model may have been created in the 1980s, but many people still find it extremely useful to chart their development.
